the ambient music scene is under the underground. It is below the subculture; a scene so obscure that it exists mostly in the bedrooms of its fans. In Los Angeles today, there is no "ambient" scene to speak of; there are scenes, however large or small, for trance, techno, house, happy hardcore (shudder) and the like; the more accessible genres of electronic sound. yet there is none for ambient music, also known as illbient, idm, experimental, etc.

for an ambient event, one doesn't need the usual preconceptions of a party; dancing is nonessential. listening, however, is key. all you need is a soundsystem and a dj. location is not restricted by the confines of "normal" parties- you don't need room to dance, but room to think. you could have the event anywhere you can set up the components and play music without interference. los angeles needs an ambient scene.
